COVID-19 Return to Work Plan
Masking is No Longer Mandatory At Innovation Works Starting January 3, 2023
Earlier this month, we met with the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Alex Summers, from the Middlesex Health Unit. After our conversation, we feel we are able to lift our masking mandate while still prioritizing the safety of all co-tenants, volunteers, guests, and Pillar staff. As of January 3rd, masking will now be strongly encouraged rather than mandatory at Innovation Works.
Why did we make this decision?
Upon review and in consultation with public health, Innovation Works is perceived to be a relatively low-risk environment for a virus to spread due to the size of the space and high ceilings. There is frequent disinfection of high-touch points and a strong ventilation system. Our filter exchanges in the HVAC systems are performed every other month since 2020, instead of the recommended quarterly (4x/year). Additionally, the building's HVAC fans run continuously to improve filtering, air circulation, and increase fresh air exchange. Our air volume is exchanged with fresh air at a rate of 15-20% every time it cycles through our HVAC system. We have and continue to complete a review of the system with our service provider and have regular maintenance checks. We have invested in these safety measures in the spirit of community health and care but cannot fully protect against infection or spread of respiratory viruses. Again, we strongly encourage you to continue to wear a mask for added protection.
- While masks are one layer of protection that can protect us from the transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses, up-to-date vaccination remains the most effective protection against COVID-19.
Other things that you should do to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses:
- Get your flu shot.
- Get the most recent COVID-19 vaccination for which you are eligible.
Stay home when you feel unwell.
